Gunmen launch deadly attack on Coptic church near Cairo Posted: 29 Dec 2017 05:26 AM PST At least nine killed, including members of Egypt's Christian minority, in shooting at Marmina church in Helwan district At least two gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire outside a Coptic church south of Cairo on Friday, killing at least nine people in the latest attack on the country's Christian minority. The attack happened at the Marmina church in the Helwan City district on the capital's southern outskirts. The dead include members of the congregation and a police officer killed in a shootout at the security post guarding the building. Several others were wounded. |

Police dispersed protesters in the western city of Kermanshah as spontaneous rallies spread to Tehran and apparently several other cities, a day after demonstrations in the north-east, the semi-official news agency Fars said. |

Now, a decade after the inception of a Guardian-supported scheme to help her community, she is more productive and prosperous Joyce Abiro was among the first to join the Katine farmers' cooperative in 2010. She's since been able to take out loans to buy seeds and equipment, store what she produces in the community warehouse so that it keeps dry and clean, and sell her crops when the price is right.
