The agreement, two months after a parliamentary election dominated by Europe's migration crisis, ends more than a decade in opposition for the FPO, which last entered government in 2000 with the People's party (OVP) that Kurz now leads.

Reports of casualties and collapsed buildings after quake hits Jakarta and other cities on country's most populous island

A strong earthquake has struck the Indonesian capital and other cities on the country's most populous island, Java, killing an unknown number of people.

There were reports of collapsed buildings, and authorities issued a tsunami warning for parts of Java's coastline after the quake struck just before midnight (1700 GMT) on Friday. People ran into the street in panic in many areas and Indonesian television showed heavy traffic on roads as people fled coastal areas.

Rex Tillerson scales back offer of opening dialogue with North Korea

Rex Tillerson has said that the US was keeping channels of communication open with North Korea but said Pyongyang would have to "earn its way back to the table" with a "sustained cessation of threatening behaviour".

In his remarks at a ministerial meeting of the UN security council, the US secretary of state appeared to restate an offer of a dialogue following a pause in nuclear and missile testing that he made on Tuesday, but cast it in tougher language following a rebuke from the White House. Tillerson omitted a line restating US openness to talks "without pre-conditions" that had been in a text of his speech circulated earlier by the state department.
