Li Liangwei bears no resemblance to US president, can't speak his language and admits to knowing little about his life – but his star is rising

Li Liangwei may look nothing like the US president – but China's one, and perhaps only, Donald Trump impersonator does share his tendency to exaggerate crowds.

The chain-smoking 65-year-old claims 1,000 people witnessed his professional debut at a cosmetic surgery fair in Shenzhen last December, although his agent says the real number was closer to 500.

Young women, who were among 276 captured in April 2014, flown to Nigerian capital to meet president while charities call for them to be reunited with families

Months of negotiations involving participants across two continents has resulted in a deal in which 82 Chibok schoolgirls – who were seized from their dormitories in April 2014 and held captive for more than three years by the Islamist group Boko Haram – have been released in exchange for five militant leaders.

But joy at their freedom was quickly followed by concern for their privacy and fears that the thousands of other less high-profile prisoners still held captive by the extremists would be forgotten.

Parliament to consider nation state bill that would make Hebrew the lone national language

Israeli ministers have approved the wording of a new law that would downgrade Arabic as an official language and which states that the right to self-determination in Israel "is unique to the Jewish people", despite the country's sizeable non-Jewish minority.

The go-ahead for the nation state bill by the ministerial committee for legislation means it will now move forward to a vote by the country's parliament. The bill has to pass several stages in the Israeli parliament, the Knesset, for it to become law and could also be challenged in the courts.

‘We must protect our country’: extremist Buddhists target Mandalay’s Muslims

Ultra-nationalist Buddhist group Ma Ba Tha has been spreading anti-Muslim rhetoric across Myanmar for years. Cosmopolitan Mandalay is at the heart of this hostility – which many fear is here to stay

In a cluttered room in a monastery in Mandalay, Myanmar's second city, a group of crimson-robed monks and their followers feverishly smoke and talk. One monk wearing black, thick-rimmed glasses feeds paper into a photocopier. Another lies on the floor, stapling pages of propaganda together. Hangers-on laugh loudly and flick cigarette butts into an ashtray.

They're forming petitions, explains a monk with oversized sunglasses perched on his forehead. A local journalist recently criticised the group's front man, the vitriolic monk Ashin Wirathu, known for his violently anti-Muslim rhetoric. They now want the reporter arrested.

Chocolate Remix: the lesbian reggaeton artist taking on Argentina's 'supermachos'

Posted: 07 May 2017 09:00 AM PDT

Reggaeton is almost as famous for its dodgy lyrics as its dancehall rhythms. But in Argentina, one woman is busting sexual taboos and outswaggering the men

The founding fathers of the testosterone-fuelled Latin pop genre reggaeton would probably be surprised to hear their penises described as dispensable. But this is the message from Chocolate Remix, a tiny Argentinian woman in a big cap taking aim at the "supermachos" in her single, Lo Que Las Mujeres Quieren. "Hey macho reggaeton man, listen to what I say / You don't know about women / A woman prefers two well-placed fingers."

This is "lesbian reggaeton", and "Choco", its swaggering pioneer, is one of a rising number of female reggaetoneras changing the male-dominated genre from within. An established talent in Buenos Aires' alternative scene, Choco keeps reggaeton's defining dembow rhythm and perreo (the doggy-style grinding dance culture) but uses the lyrics to satirise machismo and bust the taboos of female pleasure and lesbian sex. She also revisits reggaeton's homophobic roots and rewrites the songs for a queer audience.

The Rev Elizabeth Tyndall obituary

Posted: 07 May 2017 09:41 AM PDT

When my grandmother was born in 1930, the idea that she would become a Church of England priest would have been met with disbelief. Yet Elizabeth Tyndall, who has died aged 86, was among the first wave of female priests ordained in 1994. The achievement was made possible because of her compassion and determination in the face of opposition from within the church.

Born in Bristol, Elizabeth was the youngest of six children of Frank Ballard, a Congregational minister, and his wife, Isabel (nee Oman). She attended St Paul's girls' school in London and went on to study French at St Andrews University, graduating in 1951. She then trained as a teacher at Homerton College, Cambridge, where she met and married Nicholas Tyndall, then a Cambridge student. Elizabeth was a natural educator and her first career saw her teaching in a variety of schools and prisons, while becoming a mother to four children in quick succession.
