US man rescued from capsized boat two months after going missing at sea

Louis Jordan was reported missing on 29 January and was spotted by German tanker far off North Carolina coast

A man whose family reported him missing at sea more than two months ago has been found sitting on the overturned hull of his 35ft boat far off the North Carolina coast.

US Coast Guard officials in Portsmouth, Virginia, said they received word from a German tanker at 1.30pm on Thursday about a man and his boat approximately 200 miles east of Cape Hatteras.

A Duke University student has admitted to hanging a noose from a tree on campus, a day after hundreds attended a rally there decrying racism at the university.

University police and the office of student affairs said on Thursday that they had identified the student but would not release a name due to federal privacy laws. The student is "no longer on campus", a police spokesman, Keith Lawrence, said, adding that the person "will be subject to Duke's student conduct process".
