US supreme court abortion reversal would be global ‘catastrophe’ for women Posted: 17 May 2022 11:00 PM PDT If Roe v Wade is overturned, it will encourage anti-choice groups – particularly in the developing world, activists warn The probable demise of abortion as a federal right in the US will be a "catastrophe" for women in low and middle-income countries, with an emboldened anti-choice movement likely to raise renewed pressure on hard-won gains, doctors and activists have warned. The leak this month of the US supreme court's draft majority opinion, which argued that the 1973 ruling effectively legalising abortion had been "egregiously wrong from the start", stunned and enraged many in America. It was clear he found that the levels of militia support he had been promised were not forthcoming. He had entered the city in secret overnight with the support of one powerful armed group, the eighth brigade, but it found itself isolated and no other support arrived from outside the city. Government claims of 7% real wage rise since in office disputed – as it happened Posted: 18 May 2022 03:24 AM PDT Katy Gallagher disputes prime minister's claims on real wage growth; nation records at least 53 Covid deaths. This blog is now closed
National party deputy leader, David Littleproud was feeling upbeat this morning while speaking to ABC Breakfast TV: We have achieved a lot together, in fact we have done more than any other nation in the world if you look at an economic and health front. We should be proud but we need to shift gears and make sure we look after those cost of living inflation pressures and who is best to handle that and to drive the economy and to guide the economy. I think that's where the Australian people are looking at it when the opposition won't tell them how much of their money they're going to spend, they're taking them as mugs. We got to be open and honest and transparent. We think an upward surprise of 1% q/q growth in [today's] WPI could be enough to get the RBA over the line for 40 basis points, though if it comes in at our forecast of 0.8% q/q that prospect will recede. How 4chan’s toxic culture helped radicalize Buffalo shooting suspect Posted: 17 May 2022 11:00 PM PDT Payton Gendron's 180-page manifesto borrowed straight from the site's politics boards, echoing antisemitic and racist myths Just weeks after 4chan motivated a quadruple shooting in Washington, the racist and conspiracy-oriented online message board probably inspired the killings of 10 at a grocery store in a predominantly Black neighborhood of Buffalo over the weekend. A 180-page manifesto, allegedly released by the accused along with a video of the attack, is rife with pseudo-scientific racism, antisemitic conspiracy theories and a call for others to mimic his violence.
